Immigrant ARC Statement on the Marble Hill Shooting

Yesterday, an ICE agent was empowered by his unlawful agency to shoot first and ask questions later. As a result, our neighbor in Marble Hill was shot in the neck while a 5-year-old child was in the car. It is a cruel and devastating reminder of the harm ICE’s sustained enforcement operations are inflicting on our New York City neighbors. Immigrant ARC extends our sympathy to the families, and to the entire immigrant community.

This shooting did not happen in isolation: ongoing aggressive enforcement continues to tear families apart, deepens fear, and forces people to weigh whether they can safely leave their homes across New York and the country.

We are grateful to those who showed up within hours last night to assist, show support, and demand an end to ICE and the continued violence in New York. We applaud our friends at Make the Road NY for filing a habeas petition that has temporarily blocked our neighbor’s removal.  These moments demand a quick response that is informed and rooted in solidarity. Through I-ARC’s collective work, we continue strengthening networks and resources people can access when minutes matter.

We remain committed to our immigrant neighbors and all of the advocates alongside them in the fight.
