I-ARC Statement on DHS Activities

Whether being torn from their homes and attacked on the streets for protecting neighbors to struggling to survive in overcrowded immigration detention centers, people are being victimized by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies.

In less than a year, dozens of people have been terrorized and even shot by federal enforcement officers, including Renée Good and Alex Pretti who were killed just weeks apart in Minneapolis. A record number of people continue to die in DHS custody, including one case recently ruled a homicide at Camp East Montana in Texas. Children and parents inside detention centers and holding cells – like those in the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas -- are screaming for help. These are not isolated incidents. They are part of a system that relies on force, secrecy, and dehumanization. One that offers fantastical narratives instead of accountability.

Immigrant ARC (I-ARC) has always been there for immigrant families and advocates fighting every day to protect safety, dignity, and due process. We show up at airports, on the streets, and inside courtrooms and detention centers. We cannot – and will not -- accept a system where people are harmed or killed simply for seeking safety or exercising their rights.

Keep urging your Senators to vote ‘No’ on the appropriations bill to tear up ICE’s blank check, and join us in calling on New York State to pass the Access to Representation Act, enact the Building Up Immigrant Legal Defense (BUILD) Act, and invest $175 million in funding to best protect immigrant neighbors.
