Amelia Neumayer

Amelia (she/they) has extensive organizing and professional experience working against the detention and deportation of migrants. She is currently an immigration legal advocate at the Bronx Defenders supporting migrants in detention and removal proceedings with a pending application for partial DOJ accreditation.

Previously, Amelia supported Human Rights Watch's Business and Human Rights division in Washington, DC, working to hold companies accountable for human rights abuses. Amelia then received a Fulbright grant to do migrant solidarity research and organizing at Europe's southern border in Morocco.

Prior to their current role, Amelia served as an immigration paralegal and partially accredited DOJ accredited representative at Tahirih Justice Center, completing immigration petitions for survivors of gender-based violence in Baltimore, Maryland.

Amelia is passionate about organizing against detention and deportation and has volunteered with local migrant and racial justice collectives in the DC-VA-MD region for over 6 years. Amelia grew up in upstate NY and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Romance Languages from Mount Holyoke College with a focus on Spanish and French.
